But what you may not realize is that there are actually four different types of cockroaches that are native to our area. Your Panama City pest control experts are here to make sure you’re well-informed and prepared to deal with them.
Types of Cockroaches Native to Florida
Florida cockroaches either reproduce outside or inside, so there are two different categories they fit into. These are the types of cockroaches you’re likely to find in Florida:
- The American Cockroach – Most of the time, American cockroaches live outside. They like to get into flower beds and burrow beneath mulch. They come into people’s homes when they’re looking for food or water.
- The Florida Woods Cockroach – The Florida Woods Cockroach also prefers to live outside. They love decomposing plants and are often found hiding out in firewood. People usually bring them inside by accident.
- The Smokybrown Cockroach – The smokybrown cockroach prefers to live inside. They are attracted to standing water, so basements and other moist areas are commonly where they’re found.
- The Australian Cockroach – Australian cockroaches are always in search of warm, damp areas where there’s plenty of food. They can find their way into your home through cracks or by crawling through doors or windows.
