Every year, there are around 300 incidents involving brown recluse spiders that are reported. That isn’t a huge number, but it does indicate that they seem to enjoy living in Florida. If you do happen to come across one, it’s important to know what you can expect. 

About the Brown Recluse Spider

Brown recluse spiders have long, reddish brown legs, and the females and males are around the same size – 7 – 12 mm. These pests got their name because of their tendency to spend a lot of time by themselves. They’re often found in dark places, hiding out. They only bite when they are right next to the person’s skin. 

About Brown Recluse Spider Bites

The bites from these pests are very painful. They typically occur when a person puts on a piece of clothing where the spider is hiding. They often bite the thigh area or the upper arm. 

The symptoms of a brown recluse spider bite include: 

  • Blistering 
  • Pain and swelling
  • Necrosis

It can take some time to heal from a brown recluse spider bite. The cells in the area often die off, leaving scar tissue behind.
